The Second Tripartite Summit of Heads of State and Government took place on 12 June, 2011, in Johannesburg, South Africa. A major achievement of the summit includes the official launch of negotiations on the Tripartite Free Trade Area (FTA). Agreement was reached on the negotiating principles, processes, scope and institutional framework. A roadmap and timelines for establishing the FTA were also agreed.
